We almost sold our apartment at a terrible price

What's the sroty?

After trying for months to sell her apartment by herself, Maya called me. Two serious buyers appeared and in a successful negotiation, Maya and her partner sold the apartment for more than they had expected.

Real Estate Tip

You can publicize your flat by yourself on all the realty websites, but here is the downside: Your postings have to be upgraded every few days. In addition, you have to waste time on non-serious callers. As time passes, you lose hope and lower your price. “We gave Ran exclusiveness rights to sell our flat. After a short but thorough process of familiarization and photo-taking of the apartment, he showed it over several months with patience and courtesy. We gave him a key and felt completely secure when he entered when we weren’t home; even when the children were home alone. He was always pleasant toward us and to the potential buyers. He always called ahead and was always on time. He coordinated with other agents – which multiplied the number of potential buyers.

Our discussions were always relaxed and professional, and left no doubt that the decisions were in our hands. When purchase proposals were offered, Ran shared them with us, listened to our possible points of compromise, and came back to us with a final offer after he negotiated for us. For us, this was the most important part – the feeling that Ran was indeed representing us and our interests, and would get the best deal for us without our having to be involved in the tension and unpleasantness.

To sum up – frequently people do not understand the need for an agent, saying he only ‘takes his cut and does nothing’. In Ran’s case, he earned every shekel we paid him; I’m positive he got a much better deal for us than we could have ourselves.
